The Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries has granted 35 million dkr. to a project aimed at increasing our knowledge regarding the spread of resistant bacteria such as MRSA and possible control measures.

DTU Vet is in charge of the project which will be carried out in close collaboration with Statens Serum Institute SSI. In addition DTU Vet will coordinate efforts in cooperation with other relevant actors.

The project is based on the fact that the transfer of MRSA from animals to humans is a growing challenge, and the need for more knowledge on the spread and how MRSA can effectively be combatted.

The project includes the following headlines

  1. Development of an MRSA model.
  2. Investigation of the prevalence of MRSA in Danish pig herds.
  3. Detection, monitoring and control of MRSA in pigs.
  4. The risk of infection of people.
  5. Socio-economic assessment of possible interventions against MRSA.
