Ulla Riber arbejder med at karakterisere immunsystemets reaktion på infektion, primært hos svin og kvæg. Samspillet mellem de mikroorganismer, der giver infektion, og værtens forsvarsmekanismer undersøges dels ved naturlige infektioner i dyr, dels ved studier i celler. Det nuværende arbejde handler primært om Lawsonia intracellularis, som giver tarmproblemer hos grise, og om Mycoplasma hyosynovia, som giver led-betændelse hos grise. Formålet er at karakterisere et beskyttende immunsvar, som eventuelt kan induceres ved vaccination.
Flowcytometri er en central teknik i dette arbejde. Med flowcytometri kan man blandt andet typebestemme og måle den immunologiske aktivitet på enkelt-celle-niveau. I et nyt projekt skal der udvikles en flowcytometrisk metode, hvor det antistof baserede immunsvar kan måles ved anvendelse af mikro-partikler. |
