The research in the epidemiology group is aimed at improving animal and human health and welfare.
Research areas encompass evaluation and optimization of diagnostic and surveillance methods, and prevention of serious diseases in livestock, simulation modelling of spread of disease and disease vectors, animal health economics, identification of risk factors associated with disease and reduced animal welfare, and various analyses of risk of introduction or spread of disease.
Most of the research findings of the group is translated into public sector consultancy of the veterinary authorities.
The research in the group is conducted in close cooperation with national and international partners. The International Research Centre for Veterinary Epidemiology ‘EpiLab’ is rooted in the research group. The group has been appointed OIE collaborating centre for Research and Training in Population Animal Health Diagnosis and Surveillance Systems.
